Greater Manchester is the densest skip market we operate in. Ten metropolitan boroughs, nearly three million people, hundreds of ongoing construction and refurb projects at any one time. Prices across the metro range from £165 for a mini to £345 for a maxi, with fairly predictable variation by district.

What drives the Greater Manchester spread

City centre premium

Central Manchester is consistently the priciest node in the metro. Access is harder, traffic is worse, congestion charging (for older lorries) bites, and transfer station routing is slower. The maxi price of £345 in zone 1 reflects all of that. See Manchester skip hire for live central rates.

South Manchester districts

Stockport, Trafford and south Salford sit consistently £10 above the outer-ring average. Denser residential streets means more permit-required placements and more bookings per week, pushing demand. See Stockport skip hire, Stretford skip hire, or Sale skip hire.

North and east: best value

Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Bury and Wigan are the price-friendly end of the metro. Bigger depots, easier access to transfer stations via the M60/M66, and slightly lower council permit fees all work in customers' favour. Our Bolton skip hire, Oldham skip hire and Rochdale skip hire depots serve this corridor.

Special cases in Greater Manchester

Clean Air Zone considerations

The Greater Manchester Clean Air Zone was implemented, paused, and is being reviewed. Skip hauliers running Euro-6 trucks are unaffected by current rules. EZ Skip Hire's Manchester fleet is fully compliant, so there's no surcharge for CAZ entry at present.

Tight access streets

Older Manchester terraces often have road access too narrow for an 8-yard maxi. Where the 8-yard is impossible, a 6-yard "midi-plus" skip is sometimes available - it's not on our standard price list but can be booked on request at several depots.

Booking tips for Greater Manchester

  1. Book at least 48 hours in advance where possible - central Manchester slots fill up fast, especially on Fridays.
  2. Where you have a driveway, use it. Skipping the permit saves £55-70 outright.
  3. Check neighbour parking before picking a road placement day - a blocked-in skip lorry wastes everyone's time.
  4. Match your skip to the job properly. See our size guide.

Compare with neighbouring counties

Greater Manchester prices run £10-20 above Lancashire and broadly match West Yorkshire. For cross-border projects (Saddleworth from West Yorkshire, Horwich from Bolton into the Lancashire boundary) check both sides - sometimes the next-county depot is closer than your home-county one. The full coverage map shows every depot.

Metrolink zones and skip access

A practical issue for inner-ring Manchester bookings: Metrolink tram lines. Skip lorries cannot stop on the tram tracks, and placement on streets adjacent to tram stops needs care around the permit. We flag this at booking for all affected postcodes. In most cases it just means a slight adjustment to where the skip sits, rather than a different price.

City-centre apartment buildings

Manchester has thousands of apartment buildings, many served only by loading bays at ground level. Skip placement for apartment refurbs usually means either arranging use of a loading bay (through the building management) or using a smaller skip that fits inside the designated service area. For flats with no vehicle access, a skip bag or man-and-van service may be more practical - see our skip vs skip bag and skip vs man and van comparisons.

Trade and build projects in Greater Manchester

Greater Manchester has the highest density of construction and refurb activity per square mile in the north. Builders working in the region often have monthly or project-based accounts with us that bundle skip hire, exchanges and rubble-specific skips into a fixed fee schedule. See our builder's guide for the trade-rate angle.

Where to start
